We have decided to update you on our current situation regarding reopening our Sunday in-person gatherings. If you will remember, here are the principles that will guide our decisions at this time:
Bias toward the vulnerable
Subject to governing authorities
Not driven by self-interest
Gathering physically matters
Every church member matters
Risk is valuable, recklessness is wasteful
The terrain has changed but the goalposts haven’t.
Over the course of the last few weeks, we have been building towards in-person gatherings on a Sunday. In August, we installed new equipment and fibre-optic broadband in the building which would enable us to live-stream effectively. We also bought all the safety/cleaning equipment needed to make the building COVID secure. In September/October, we have tested our live-stream during hybrid in-person and online, midweek bible studies. Despite a few early technical glitches, we have now found our groove and it seems to be working smoothly – a huge thank you to all who helped make this possible.
All of this was done, with the intention of opening our building on Sundays by the end of October/early November. However, due to the current rise in cases across the country, the upward curve and the new Tier system, we as an eldership believe it is right to delay that decision by a few weeks.
So for the time being, we will be carrying on as we are with Sunday gatherings on Zoom and our midweek in-person and online bible study on Tuesday evenings at 7.30pm-8.45pm. We are, however, closing our coffee morning on a Thursday morning due to the fact that, as part of the High Peak, we now find ourselves in Tier 2 with restrictions on mingling between households. For those who may feel that they need increased support during this time, please do reach out to us!
